Infancy was a time when your baby learned physically....through touch, sight and sound. Though toddlers are much more active, the learning process is actually more pensive. Their language skills increase and they begin to form mental images of things, actions and concepts. They begin to solve some problems by mental process rather than manipulating things physically. Shape sorters, pegboards, nesting toys and simple puzzles will help increase their analytical and motor skills. Preschoolers begin using their imaginations and spend a great deal of time pretending. Play is inventive and richly imaginative. They continue to emulate adult activities, but want toys with greater detail. This is also a time when they learn their colors, numbers and letters. They enjoy toys that allow them to be creative, stimulate their imaginations, or pose a slight challenge. Craft supplies, simple board games and dress-up clothes are always a hit with the preschool crowd. |
